James Lewis is a self trained artist, based in Sherford, near Plymouth, Devon. 
He left education at the age of sixteen with an A grade in Art and then rarely picked up a paint brush over the next thirty years. In the meantime, he had a twenty year policing career followed by a complete change when he qualified as a flying instructor. He always kept his creativity alive by entertaining his colleagues with cartoons and cariacatures but always dreamed of being an artist. 

In 2013 he started producing canvas art for his own home and quickly moved on to selling his work at local art and craft events and venues. His paintings have since found their way around the world, from Australia to America.
He likes to paint in bright, bold colours and his work is varied and versatile. He particularly loves to paint the sea, capturing the energy of waves and surf and the play of light on and through the water. He is equally at home though, painting animals and birds, trees and even pet portraits.
